It was the third anniversary of my older brother’s death. My brother, who passed away three years ago, had a wife named Hibiki.
Seven summers ago, my brother brought Hibiki to meet us for the first time. It was a hot, humid day and my brother had bought a watermelon, we cut it open, boiled some corn, and the three of us ate together.
At the end of the year my brother died, she moved out of the house. Since then, apart from meeting her each year on the anniversary of his death, I would sometimes visit her apartment to check on how she was doing out of concern.
